Our Philosophy

We follow the National Early Childhood Curriculum of Aotearoa - Te Whāriki.  Four principles underpin the approach we take when caring for your child.

Relationships - Ngā Hononga

Likewise, the important role we play as stewards of Papatūānuku/nature, plays a pivotal part in guiding us, our values, practice, and curriculum.

Inclusivity is a key value at our centre. We work closely with whānau and our wider community to treasure and celebrate diversity.

We also value the importance of Tuakana-Teina relationships – the idea of learning being shared from the older or more experienced to the younger or less knowledgeable. We strive for an open door where the children transition through our centre at their own unhurried pace.

We Value Parent Partnerships

Underpinned by our early childhood curriculum, parent and whānau partnerships are highly valued at The Cottage.

We encourage open and frequent communication and collaboration with parents and whānau. This helps us to gain insight into each child's unique routines, likes, dislikes, strengths, needs, and family aspirations.

These partnerships guide us not only to support children's learning but to promote their sense of belonging.
